About this book

Charlie Gordon, a floor sweeper with an IQ of 68 who is often the target of jokes, undergoes an experimental procedure designed to enhance human intelligence. The experiment transforms him into a genius. However, when Algernon, the mouse whose successful experimental transformation preceded Charlie's, begins to fade and dies, Charlie must confront the possibility that his own transformation may be temporary. The novel is structured as a series of diary entries that document Charlie's experience throughout the experimental procedure and its effects on his life. It explores themes of intelligence, hope, perseverance, truth, and humanity as Charlie navigates the profound changes to his mind and circumstances.
