About this book

Set in 1931 Shanghai, this novel follows Rosalind Lang, a spy who was brought back from death through an experiment that left her unable to sleep, age, or die from wounds. Now working as an assassin under the code name Fortune, she seeks redemption for her past betrayals. When a series of brutal murders begins causing unrest in Shanghai amid the Japanese Imperial Army's invasion, Rosalind receives new orders to infiltrate foreign society and identify those behind the terror plot. To avoid suspicion, she must pose as the wife of fellow Nationalist spy Orion Hong. Though she finds his cavalier attitude frustrating, she agrees to the arrangement for the greater good. As Rosalind and Orion work to uncover the conspiracy, they discover the mystery has deeper and more disturbing layers than either anticipated. The first book in a duology, the novel explores their partnership as both pursue their own hidden agendas.
