Freedom: My Book of Firsts is the follow-up to Jaycee Dugard's memoir A Stolen Life. She was held captive by Philip and Nancy Garrido for more than eighteen years and gave birth to two daughters during her imprisonment. While A Stolen Life documented her abduction through her reappearance in 2009, Freedom describes what came after. The book details Dugard's first experiences in freedom: reuniting with her mother, meeting her adult sister, visiting a dentist, attending her daughters' first day of school, driving a car, and navigating social situations like weddings and relationships. Through these accounts, Dugard explores how to rebuild a life after trauma, reflecting on her belief that individuals hold the key to their own happiness.
