About this book

Seven years ago, Stacey Edgar began with a $2,000 tax return and a goal to provide economic security for women in poverty. Aware that seventy percent of the 1.3 billion people living on less than $1 per day are women, she started a socially conscious business despite having no business plan or passport. Her company has since helped poor women across five continents feed their families and send their children to school. Global Girlfriends has grown into a multi-million dollar enterprise specializing in handmade, fairly traded, ecoconscious apparel, accessories, and items produced by women worldwide. This book tells Edgar's story of acting on her convictions and presents her argument for simple actions that can help eliminate extreme poverty. Rather than being overwhelmed by the scale of global poverty, Edgar took several small steps and built from there.
