Hannibal Rising (Hannibal Lecter Book 4)

This novel traces the origins of Hannibal Lecter, one of literature's most notable characters. The story begins with Hannibal emerging from the Eastern Front as a mute boy wearing a chain around his neck, seemingly alone but carrying deep trauma with him. Hannibal's uncle, a painter, discovers him in a Soviet orphanage and brings him to France. There, Hannibal lives with his uncle and his uncle's wife, Lady Murasaki. With Lady Murasaki's support, Hannibal begins to heal and eventually becomes the youngest person ever admitted to medical school in France. However, Hannibal's inner demons continue to haunt him. As he matures, he seeks them out in return. Through this process, he discovers abilities beyond his academic talents, and this realization marks his transformation into what the narrative describes as death's prodigy.
