Hawk Recon: Head Hunters of the A Shau Valley

William Osgood served as a combat medic during the Vietnam War, working with the 101st Airborne Division's Hawk Recon unit under Colonel Charlie Beckwith. Operating deep in the bush across South Vietnam, Osgood saw combat in major battlefields including the Ho Chi Minh Trail, Hamburger Hill, and the A Shau Valley, facing North Vietnamese Army troops. As head medic for the 2/327th, 101st Airborne Division, Osgood held one of the most dangerous positions in one of the deadliest regions of South Vietnam. He also documented his experiences as a combat artist during the war. This memoir recounts Osgood's frontline experiences, including moments of bravery under fire as he engaged the enemy and provided medical care to wounded soldiers.
