Hidden Pictures: A Novel

Mallory Quinn, recently out of rehab, takes a job as a nanny for five-year-old Teddy Maxwell. She quickly settles into the role, bonding with the shy boy who is rarely without his sketchbook and pencil. Teddy's drawings begin innocuously—trees, rabbits, balloons—but shift when he sketches a man in a forest dragging a woman's lifeless body. His artwork grows increasingly disturbing, evolving into detailed, lifelike sketches far beyond what a five-year-old should be capable of producing. Mallory begins to suspect these images may be glimpses of an unsolved murder, possibly communicated through supernatural means. Aware of how implausible this sounds, she nonetheless attempts to interpret the drawings and protect Teddy before circumstances escalate further.
