Tabitha Knight, living in postwar Paris, has befriended fellow expat and Cordon Bleu student Julia Child. When a woman claiming to be a medium named Madame Vierca appears at her grandfather's rue de l'Université mansion warning of danger to Grand-père and Oncle Rafe, Tabitha dismisses the encounter as odd. However, events soon take a darker turn. Grand-père and Oncle Rafe host a soiree at their new restaurant to honor the Nine Bluets, a Resistance network from the war. A vase on the dinner table displays nine blue flowers to commemorate the group. That night, one of Grand-père's old friends is found dead on the street, and one flower is missing from the vase. When a second member of the Nine Bluets is discovered poisoned the next day with a bluet flower left at the body, Tabitha becomes convinced Madame Vierca's warnings may have merit. Tabitha shares her fears with Inspecteur Merveille, and together they investigate. Their search leads them through dangerous areas of the Left Bank as they race to identify a killer before the remaining members of the Nine Bluets—including Grand-père and Oncle Rafe—become targets.
