Perfect for you if...

  • You're drawn to political history and want the full context behind America's most infamous assassination, not just the official story.
  • You enjoyed Killing Lincoln and want to continue O'Reilly's chronicle of pivotal moments that reshaped the nation.
  • You appreciate narrative nonfiction that weaves together multiple threads: espionage, corruption, and the personal toll of the presidency.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You're looking for a definitive answer to the JFK conspiracy; this explores possibilities rather than settling the debate once and for all.
  • You prefer footnoted academic history over a more cinematic, storytelling approach to historical events.
  • You have no patience for O'Reilly's writing style or perspective on American politics.

About this book

Killing Kennedy recounts the assassination of John F. Kennedy and its aftermath. The narrative begins in January 1961 as Kennedy assumes the presidency during the Cold War, working to contain the spread of Communism. He faces opposition from Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, CIA director Allen Dulles, and organized crime figures who discuss targeting the president and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy. In 1963, during a campaign trip to Texas, Kennedy is shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, a former Marine Corps sharpshooter. Oswald escapes but is later caught and killed in police custody. The book examines the events leading to the assassination and explores both the heroism and deceit surrounding Kennedy's presidency. It also describes how the gunshots in Dallas sent the nation into division over the Vietnam War and its cultural aftermath. The work is the follow-up to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln.
