About this book

Lady Midnight follows the Shadowhunters of Los Angeles in the first book of The Dark Artifices series, which continues from the Mortal Instruments books. Five years after the events of City of Heavenly Fire, Emma Carstairs is determined to discover who killed her parents and seek revenge. Working alongside her battle partner Julian Blackthorn, Emma investigates a demonic plot spanning Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the beaches of Santa Monica. She must learn to balance her instincts and emotions as she pursues the truth. Complications arise when Mark Blackthorn, Julian's brother who was captured by faeries five years earlier, is returned as part of a faerie bargain. The faeries need Shadowhunter help to find whoever is murdering their kind. Since time passes differently in faerie, Mark has barely aged and does not recognize his family. Emma must also navigate her own conflicted feelings as she works with Julian.
