Former Army Special Forces soldier Jack Pilgrim runs a successful security business with government contracts, a comfortable lifestyle, and a wife. When his business partner Merc Conrad disappears in Afghanistan with government cash and company assets, the CIA threatens to imprison Pilgrim unless he recovers the money. Despite the stakes, Pilgrim feels obligated to find Conrad, who saved his life three times during their military service together. Pilgrim returns to Afghanistan as the country descends into chaos ahead of a U.S. withdrawal. Following Conrad's trail to the Pakistan border region, Pilgrim encounters increasingly dangerous conditions. Reports suggest Conrad has assembled a guerrilla force and is pursuing Osama bin Laden. As Pilgrim ventures deeper into the Afghan borderlands, Conrad's legend grows, and the dangers multiply—insurgent attacks and terror cells threaten at every turn. Pilgrim's journey forces him to question his own reality, and he realizes that finding Conrad alive may be his only chance of survival.
