Peggy Moriarty has spent years focused on raising her twins, Grace and Greg. Now that they're teenagers with their own lives, she feels adrift. Her main interest is watching Messages from Beyond, a television show featuring a medium who helps grieving people connect with deceased loved ones. When the twins leave for college, they give Peggy a gift certificate for an exercise class. Initially hurt by the gift, Peggy eventually sees it as an opportunity. If she gets in shape, she believes she'll gain the confidence needed to appear on her favorite show and speak with her late husband one final time. With support from new friends at the gym and Carmen Tavarez, the mother of Grace's boyfriend, Peggy begins to step outside her comfort zone. Through this journey of grief, friendship, and self-discovery, she may learn that her identity extends beyond being a mother, a widow, and her physical appearance.
