Margaret Douglas spent her childhood raised off the grid in an abusive home. She found solace in the nearby forest, where she discovered an unusual ability: she could understand animals and communicate with them. These creatures became her only companions during a difficult upbringing. As an adult, Margaret seeks a quiet life close to animals, living under the radar. However, her abilities have attracted unwanted attention from those who wish to exploit them. To protect herself, she repeatedly uproots her life and disappears whenever someone gets too close. When CIA operative John Lassiter breaks into her apartment, Margaret vanishes once more.
