On the Banks of Plum Creek (Little House on the Prairie Book 4)

The fourth book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series, this novel is a recipient of a Newbery Honor. The story follows Laura Ingalls and her family as they leave the prairie and travel by covered wagon to Walnut Grove, Minnesota, where they settle in a new sod home beside Plum Creek. Pa later builds a house with real glass windows and a hinged door. Laura and her sister Mary attend school, help with household chores, and fish in the creek. In the evenings, the family gathers to listen to Pa play his fiddle. The family faces hardships including a grasshopper plague and a severe blizzard, which they work together to survive. Based on Laura's own childhood experiences, the Little House series has been read by generations of readers as both a historical account of America's frontier and as a collection of family stories.
