Frank has established a stable life in Green Mountain over five months, complete with steady work and regular meals. He shares this life with Maisie, who remains vigilant and keeps a packed bag ready, and eight-year-old Zoe, who relies on routine, school schedules, and the assurance that adults keep their word. Frank has witnessed sudden upheaval in other places. He attempts to maintain readiness without alarming Maisie and Zoe, working to preserve their current life while acknowledging its fragility. When circumstances from the outside world arrive at their boundary, Frank must confront how much faith he can place in the barriers protecting them and determine his response if those barriers fail.
