About this book

Edgar Snow's account of the birth of Chinese Communism, based on his 1936 visit to meet Mao Tse-tung and Chinese Communist leaders—the first time a Western journalist had done so. Snow's firsthand experience resulted in a historical account of the Chinese revolution and the Long March, events that shaped the future of Asia and the world. This edition includes extensive notes on military and political developments in China, interviews with Mao, a chronology spanning 125 years of Chinese history, and nearly a hundred biographies of men and women instrumental in China's development.
