In 1989 Germany, during the final years of the divided nation, Faith Whitney continues her family's dangerous work smuggling goods across the Iron Curtain. The daughter of an active smuggler of religious materials, Faith has grown up knowing the risks—risks that have already torn her family apart. Her smuggling activities attract unwanted attention from the East German Stasi, who force her to deliver a package to Moscow within forty-eight hours or face elimination. As incentive, they offer information about her missing father. Complicating matters, Colonel Bogdanov of the KGB contacts Faith secretly, also demanding the package at any cost. Faith reaches out to her ex-fiancée, Naval Officer Max Summer, the only person with the skills to help her reach Moscow alive. As they flee and investigate the package's contents, they discover it is connected to a larger plan with potential consequences for the Cold War itself. Uncertain whom to trust and barely surviving interrogations, Faith and Max must navigate a web of espionage and danger where delivering the package may cost them their lives. The novel depicts the workings of communist East Germany and the Soviet Union during this turbulent period.
