Rio Noir is an anthology of 14 short stories set in Rio de Janeiro. The collection features dark and violent narratives that explore the city beyond its famous landmarks—Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and beaches—revealing instead a world of shadows, blood, intrigue, violence, and mystery. The stories include characters such as procurers, colonels, cops, traffickers, socialites, slum-dwellers, embezzlers, tourists, detectives, journalists, politicians, assassins, outlaws, and coup-plotters. Themes include drugs, violence, sex, and murder. One story involves a man who receives a tarot reading and is poisoned by a daughter he never knew he had. Published as part of Akashic Books' noir anthology series, this collection offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on Rio as a city teeming with life, including its darker elements.
