Saving Stacy: The Untold Story of the Moody Massacre

On Memorial Day, May 25, 2005, a shooting occurred at a family farm in Logan County. A 15-year-old girl, Stacy, was shot in the face twice and left for dead. The Logan County Sheriff initially declared the incident a rampage and murder-suicide, concluding that 18-year-old Scott Moody, who lived on the farm with his mother and sister, had killed his grandparents, mother, a high school classmate, and his girlfriend before taking his own life. Sheriff Henry believed Scott had also killed his sister. When Stacy regained consciousness in intensive care three days later, she told the county coroner a different account: the shooter was an older man with gray hair wearing a blue shirt, someone she had never seen before. This revelation raised questions about corruption within the Logan County Sheriff's Office. After her hospital release, Detective Jon Stout interviewed Stacy privately and sexually assaulted her in his unmarked cruiser. When wrongful death actions were filed against Scott's estate, his father hired outside experts who refuted the theory that Scott was the shooter. The investigation revealed corruption within the sheriff's office involving underage sex and illicit drugs.
