Second Impact: Making the Hardest Call of All

Kendall is a football town where Jerry Downing, the high school's star quarterback, is working to redeem himself after a drunk driving accident the previous year in which he nearly killed a girl. Carla Jenson, the lead reporter for the school newspaper's sports section, recruits Jerry to co-author a blog that chronicles the season from both of their perspectives. When Jerry's best friend on the team sustains a serious injury, Carla publicly questions whether the injuries that occur in football come at too high a cost to players' lives. However, not everyone in Kendall is receptive to this question. The story explores these tensions through the experiences of both characters as the season unfolds.
