Species Traitor: A Science Fiction Dystopian Novel

Ava Mendoza identifies herself as a species traitor. The Veilorians arrived seeking a new home after their planet was destroyed, but found Earth also dying. Most humans viewed their arrival as an invasion. Two decades later, the Veilorians have been confined to the District, a fenced area on the outskirts of Earth's last livable region. Most people ignore their existence, though some humans, including Ava's cousin, recognize them differently. Despite risking disownment, Ava's cousin married a Veilorian and now lives in the District. Ava was already committed to standing up for what she believed was right before meeting Finn, a Veilorian with whom she forms an immediate connection. As a new, radical mayor's election approaches, tensions escalate. People demand change, including making her cousin's marriage illegal and punishing humans who enter the District. Ava refuses to abandon her fight, regardless of the consequences. Nominated for the 2021 RONE Awards in the Time Travel/Science Fiction category.
