Perfect for you if...

  • You love character-driven stories set in picturesque English villages where the scenery feels like another character in the book.
  • You enjoy second-chance romance that balances humour with genuine emotional stakes, not just surface-level feel-good moments.
  • You appreciate stories about blended families and complicated relationships alongside a central love story.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You prefer fast-paced plots with high stakes and dramatic twists over slower, quieter explorations of everyday life.
  • You want romance to be the sole focus and don't have patience for subplots involving missing young lovers, family weddings, and teenagers.
  • You're sceptical of "feel-good" marketing and prefer stories with darker edges or morally grey characters.

About this book

Set in July in the Yorkshire Dales market town of Tuppenny Bridge, this novel follows Summer Fletcher as she anticipates a relaxing summer. Her plans shift when her future stepsister Frankie, a blue-haired teenager, arrives unexpectedly. Simultaneously, local vet Ben struggles to maintain his family home, Monk's Folly, while caring for his reclusive mother and younger brother. When Summer and Ben meet in the local bookshop, attraction develops between them. However, both carry unresolved difficulties from their pasts, and gossip in the small town complicates their connection. The summer unfolds with multiple storylines: the two main characters navigating their relationship, a beloved horse named Shadow, a missing young couple, and an upcoming family wedding. The novel is set against the backdrop of Tuppenny Bridge's charming market square, lined with stone cottages. It explores themes of healing, family, and romance within a close-knit community.
