The Brides of Maracoor: A Novel (Another Day Book 1)

The first book in the Another Day trilogy, a spin-off series from Gregory Maguire's Wicked Years, introduces Rain, the green-skinned granddaughter of Elphaba. The trilogy begins twenty-five years after Wicked was first published, ten years after the conclusion of the Wicked Years with Out of Oz. Rain washes ashore on a foreign island and is found comatose after crashing into the sea. A community of single women devoted to obscure religious practices takes her in. As the mainland of Maracoor faces attack from a foreign navy, the island's civil servant overseer grapples with how Rain's arrival could destabilize an entire nation. The question remains whether myth or magic is at work. The trilogy follows Rain from the island outpost through the unmapped badlands of Maracoor as she eventually learns to return home to Oz, to her family and lover. The series explores Oz as a place of beauty, suffering, mystery, injustice, and possibility.
