About this book

This collection contains four novels by Graham Greene. The novels explore themes ranging from spiritual crisis to redemption, betrayal, and corruption. In *A Burnt-Out Case*, Querry, a renowned architect famous for designing churches, experiences a crisis of faith that leads him to a leper colony in the Congo. Working under Doctor Colin, an atheist, Querry finds himself drawn to caring for the sick and to a local plantation owner's wife. When he agrees to build a hospital, he becomes regarded as a saint, and the complications of civilization return with dangerous consequences. *The Captain and the Enemy* follows Victor Baxter, a twelve-year-old boy taken from boarding school by a mysterious stranger called the Captain, who claims to have won him from Victor's father. Victor settles into life with the Captain and a woman named Liza in London. Years later, Victor travels to Panama at the Captain's request, entering a world of dangerous deception that reveals surprising truths. *The Comedians* is set in Haiti under authoritarian rule. The collection presents Greene's exploration of faith, morality, and human relationships across diverse settings and circumstances.
