About this book

Set in late-1980s New York, this novel follows screenwriter Harry Towns, a man in his fifties who feels increasingly out of place in the world. Despite his sense of displacement, he pursues success as a playwright while also attempting to make quick money by selling a TV series. Harry is married with a young daughter, but this doesn't prevent him from pursuing other relationships and getting into dangerous situations. As he navigates the challenges of aging, his decision-making becomes increasingly complicated—even trivial choices, like whether to buy tickets to Cats, can leave him paralyzed. Through his various misadventures, Harry continues to move forward with resilience and humor.
