The Dark of the Moon

In 1943, Philly Delaney serves as one of the female pilots ferrying military aircraft across Britain. She falls in love with Ben, a Spitfire pilot, but their relationship is cut short when her skill at solving cryptic crosswords brings her to Bletchley Park's codebreaking team. She is soon recruited for a dangerous mission into Nazi-occupied France. When Ben's plane disappears during a covert flight, Philly's world collapses. For decades, she searches for answers about what happened to him, never finding the truth. Now in her nineties and living on the Île de Ré, Philly has largely abandoned hope. She meets Finn, the mathematically gifted but struggling son of her hosts. As she shares her wartime story with him, they begin to uncover what was lost—discovering that some things can still be found, and that love's capacity to heal endures across time.
