The Eyes of Venice

A young Venetian couple is separated by circumstance in this novel set during the late sixteenth century. Michele, a stonemason, is accused of a crime he did not commit and flees Venice aboard a galley, leaving behind his recently married wife, Bianca. Venice at this time is a harsh city ruled by the Doge, with the Holy Office of Inquisition maintaining suspicion over its inhabitants. As Michele's ship travels across the Mediterranean, stopping at ports and islands, he seeks to clear his name and return home. Bianca, left alone in Venice, must navigate the city's narrow passageways and hidden dangers to survive. Both face extraordinary challenges that test their cunning, courage, and fortitude as they struggle to reunite.
