The Goblin Reservation

Professor Peter Maxwell, a faculty member at the College of Supernatural Phenomena, is murdered—only to reappear weeks later at a Wisconsin matter transmission station, discovering he is both dead and unemployed. An alternate version of Maxwell had been intercepted during an interstellar mission by an alien race seeking to share advanced technology with Earth. Someone wants to prevent this knowledge from being revealed, making it urgent for Maxwell to identify his killer. Maxwell seeks help from Carol Hampton of the Time College, accompanied by her pet saber-tooth tiger, a ghost with memory problems, and a recently rescued intelligent Neanderthal Man. Their investigation leads them toward goblins, fairies, and other Little Folk living in campus reservations, drawing them into a dangerous interspecies blood feud spanning millions of years. This novel combines science fiction and fantasy elements with inventive and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. Simak was the third author honored as a Grand Master of Science Fiction by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association and received three Hugo Awards, a Nebula Award, an International Fantasy Award, and a Bram Stoker Lifetime Achievement Award.
