The Goddess of Warsaw: A Novel

The Goddess of Warsaw follows Lena Browning, a famous Golden Age movie star with a hidden past. In Los Angeles, 2005, aspiring filmmaker Sienna Hayes approaches Lena about directing a film about her life, only to discover that the legendary actress's history is far darker than expected. Before becoming a Hollywood icon, Lena was Bina Blonski, a Polish Jewish woman whose life was destroyed by the Nazis. Set in Warsaw, 1943, the narrative reveals how Bina and her husband Jakub were imprisoned in the Warsaw Ghetto alongside other surviving Jews. Determined to resist, the blonde, Aryan-looking Bina became a spy, gathering intelligence and stealing weapons outside the ghetto to protect her community. Her dangerous work becomes complicated when she falls in love with Aleksander, a resistance ally and Jakub's brother. Through these actions, Lena accomplishes acts of bravery but sacrifices greatly. After escaping the ghetto over a decade earlier, Bina reinvents herself as Lena and achieves fame in Hollywood. However, she remains haunted by her past and seeks revenge against Nazis who escaped postwar justice. Her celebrity status provides an opportunity to address past wrongs and pursue justice.
