The Godmakers

Centuries after the Rim Wars isolated numerous planets from the galactic empire, the Rediscovery and Reeducation Service works to locate these "lost planets" and reintegrate them. Not all civilizations welcome this effort. Lewis Orne, a skilled and charismatic R&R agent, identifies concerning signs on the planet Hamal and is transferred to Investigative Adjustment, an agency that handles violent worlds. He is sent to the edge of the galaxy to assess potential aggression among Hamal's population. Shortly after arriving, Orne discovers he possesses profound extrasensory powers. When this ability becomes known, he receives an invitation to join Hamal's company of "gods"—an offer he finds difficult to refuse. However, membership in this group carries its own demands and obligations.
