The Golden Spoon: A Novel

Every summer for the past ten years, six bakers have gathered at Grafton, a Vermont estate that serves as both the filming location for the TV baking competition "Bake Week" and the childhood home of the show's host, Betsy Martin. Martin is a celebrated baker and bestselling cookbook author known publicly as "America's Grandmother," though she is notably different off-screen than her public persona suggests. During this year's competition at Grafton, problems begin to emerge. Initially, sabotage occurs—sugar is replaced with salt, burners are turned up unexpectedly—but the situation escalates when a body is discovered on the estate grounds. With the death, all participants become potential suspects. The novel combines elements of mystery and competition, set against the backdrop of a high-stakes baking show where secrets and tensions among the cast members come to the surface.
