Perfect for you if...

  • You enjoy crime capers with genuine humour and snappy dialogue that doesn't sacrifice the tension.
  • You like protagonists who are clever and flawed, not action movie heroes spouting one-liners.
  • You appreciate a plot that balances criminal logistics with real stakes—in this case, actual terrorism.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You prefer straightforward crime fiction without comedic elements or banter between characters.
  • You want a deeper exploration of Joe's psychology or recovery journey rather than a fast-paced heist plot.
  • You're uncomfortable with dark humour about drug addiction, violence, and organised crime as backdrop to the action.

About this book

Joe Brody, an ex-black-ops specialist turned strip club bouncer, has been designated the "sheriff" by a coalition of New York City mob bosses—the person they call when they need something handled in their world. Recently detoxed at a Chinese herbalist's clinic after struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, Joe is pulled back into action when the mob bosses contact him with a new job. They need him to help them swindle a group of opioid dealers. However, these are no ordinary criminals. Little Maria, head of the Dominican mob, has discovered that her new heroin suppliers are connected to an al Qaeda splinter group planning to use drug profits to fund terrorist activities. Joe must lead the mob coalition through an intricate heist beginning in Manhattan's diamond district to steal $4 million in diamonds—twice. The operation carries stakes far beyond their business interests. This humorous, action-packed crime thriller combines gritty crime scenarios with comedic elements and character-driven storytelling.
