Weeks later, in the Sonoran Desert, the lawyer confronts the kidnapper, who approaches under a white flag demanding the gold from the Iron Door Mine. The lawyer refuses, stating the only thing the kidnapper will receive is the bullet his wife promised. When the kidnapper draws his weapon, the lawyer shoots him twice in the chest. The gold left by the Jesuits in the Iron Door Mine has been sought for centuries. According to this account, the young lawyer found it and took it away.
