The Last Flight: A Novel

Claire Cook lives a seemingly perfect life as the wife of a prominent political figure, with a Manhattan townhouse and an elegant lifestyle. Behind closed doors, however, her controlling husband monitors her movements closely. After months of planning, Claire heads to the airport intending to disappear. At the airport bar, Claire meets Eva, a woman in similarly desperate circumstances. On impulse, they decide to switch plane tickets—Claire will take Eva's flight to Oakland, while Eva will travel to Puerto Rico as Claire. They hope this swap will give each of them a fresh start elsewhere. When the flight to Puerto Rico crashes, Claire's situation transforms. No longer simply escaping, she must now assume Eva's identity to survive. Cut off from her former life and unable to return, Claire takes on the secrets Eva had been hiding. The novel follows these two women and the consequences of their last-minute decision to exchange places.
