The Preposterous Adventures of Swimmer

After years in captivity, a brilliant otter named Swimmer escapes into the wild. Swimmer grew up in the high country, swimming in clean water and eating fresh crawfish until a trapper killed his mother and imprisoned him and his sister, who did not survive. For years, the Professor kept him captive, subjecting him to examination. Swimmer eventually slips out of the townhouse into the park across the street, but the city water is too polluted to swim in, forcing him to return. Unable to survive on his own in the city, Swimmer asks the caretaker Clarence for help—something he had vowed never to do. Clarence refuses, convinced that Swimmer would die in the wild. When the Professor leaves for a lecture in Nashville, Swimmer seizes the opportunity to escape back to the high country. Now free, this clever otter is determined to navigate and master the wild world around him.
