About this book

Inspector Robert Colbeck and Sergeant Victor Leeming investigate their most complex case yet in 1852. A man is thrown from a train crossing the Sankey Viaduct and falls into the canal below, where he is found stabbed to death. Without identification papers, the detectives struggle to determine the victim's identity from the outset. Suspecting the victim may be from continental Europe, Colbeck and Leeming travel to France, where a British contractor is building a new railway. In this unfamiliar country, they encounter anti-British sentiment and face personal danger as they pursue the murderer's trail. This is the third book in the Railway Detective series.
