The Stories We Tell: A Novel

Eve and Cooper Morrison are a prominent couple in Savannah involved in the city's artistic and community life. They come from an old Georgia family with wealth and social standing, appearing to be the fortunate ones with an enviable life together. After twenty-one years of marriage, Eve and Cooper know each other well and have settled into predictable patterns. When Cooper and Eve's sister are involved in a car accident, the circumstances surrounding the incident threaten to destabilize their family. Eve must piece together conflicting accounts from Cooper, her sister, and available evidence to determine what actually occurred and decide how to respond. The novel examines themes of love, longing, secrets, suspicion, family, and friendship through the lens of this crisis, exploring what happens when the stories people tell about events—and each other—come into question.
