Simon Riske is a freelance industrial spy who lives a quiet life above his auto garage in central London, taking on occasional jobs for banks, insurance companies, and the British Secret Service while stealing high-value items from targets like corrupt oligarchs. Riske has avoided large, complicated assignments until gangster Tino Coluzzi orchestrates a major street heist in Paris. A visiting Saudi prince is robbed of millions in cash and a briefcase containing a secret letter that could destabilize the Western world's balance of power. The Russians have already killed to retrieve it when the CIA approaches Riske. Coluzzi and Riske were once criminal partners until their alliance ended with Riske imprisoned after narrowly escaping a hit Coluzzi ordered.
