The Winemaker's Wife

Set in the champagne vineyards of France during World War II, this novel follows two women whose lives intersect at Maison Chauveau, a storied champagne house. In 1940, Inès marries Michel, the house's owner, just as the Germans invade. Michel begins hiding munitions for the Résistance, leaving Inès fearful of exposure. Céline, the French-Jewish wife of the vineyard's chef de cave, faces even greater danger as rumors spread of Jews being deported. When Céline pursues a desperate bid for happiness and Inès makes a dangerous mistake involving a Nazi collaborator, both women jeopardize those they love and the vineyard itself. In 2019 New York, recently divorced Liv Kent is struggling when her eccentric French grandmother arrives unannounced and insists on a trip to France. The older woman carries a hidden motive—a tragic story from decades past. As past and present converge, Liv discovers a path forward connected to Maison Chauveau's caves.
