The Words We Whisper

Zara Mitchell, a hospice nurse accustomed to witnessing death, agrees to help care for her ailing grandmother despite tension within her family. Though weakened, her grandmother—Nonna—remains mentally sharp and is determined to locate something long lost. She enlists Zara to clear out the attic. While sorting through stored items and family heirlooms, Zara reconnects with a man she finds attractive, though his complicated past seems to preclude romance. Her search yields what Nonna sought: a wooden chest, an emerald broach, and a leather-bound journal. The journal contains accounts of heroism and loss from war-torn Italy in 1943. As Zara reads these stories, she discovers answers to questions she had not previously asked herself, fundamentally altering her understanding of love, regret, and how to live.
