Vanished: A Story of Betrayal, Murder, and a Father’s Dying Wish

Jana Carpenter Koklich and Bruce Koklich appeared to be a successful couple. Jana was a 41-year-old blonde and the only child of a former California state senator. Bruce was her devoted husband. Together they owned a real estate business and a computer business in Norwalk, California, along with luxury homes and high-end vehicles. In August 2001, Jana attended an Eric Clapton concert with friends and disappeared. Bruce presented himself as a grieving husband, making tearful public pleas for Jana's return. However, investigators uncovered concerning details: unexplained financial problems linked to Bruce's questionable business dealings, a mysterious business partner, and a million-dollar life insurance policy on Jana. Additionally, while Jana was missing, Bruce made inappropriate advances toward his 18-year-old niece. Jana's family, particularly her father Paul Carpenter, a former state senator, grew suspicious of Bruce. Despite battling terminal cancer in Texas, Paul Carpenter pursued justice for his daughter. In late 2003, after Jana's blood-stained car was discovered, a California jury convicted Bruce Koklich of her murder and sentenced him to fifteen years to life in prison. Paul Carpenter died before the conviction.
