Charlie Johns is transported from Earth to Ledom, a future world with a single gender and no poverty, pollution, or war. In this society, violence is rare, technology has solved hunger and overpopulation, and gender no longer exists. The tensions between male and female have been eliminated, as has human preoccupation with sex. As Charlie explores Ledom and its people, he discovers that his ingrained human values are considered offensive in this new world. Yet his hosts seem unusually eager for his approval. When inconsistencies begin to emerge in Ledom's seemingly perfect existence, Charlie uncovers disturbing truths about the city. This novel examines questions of sexuality and gender through a science fiction lens. The book includes an illustrated biography of Theodore Sturgeon with rare images and previously unpublished documents from the University of Kansas's Kenneth Spencer Research Library and the author's estate.
