Zareen’s Pakistani Kitchen: Recipes from a Well-Fed Childhood (Pakistani and Indian Cooking)

Zareen's Pakistani Kitchen is a cookbook featuring 95 recipes from Pakistani, Indian, and South Asian cuisines. Created by the team behind Zareen's restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area, the book includes stunning photography and stories celebrating the diverse flavors of the region. The recipes are designed for American home kitchens and draw from restaurant favorites, family dishes, and street food from Karachi. The collection spans street eats like Paratha Rolls and Bun Kabab; entrées such as Beef Nihari, Biryani, and Chicken Tikka Masala; Memoni community specialties; vegetarian dishes including Tarka Daal and Bhindi Masala; handmade breads like Naan and Lachha Paratha; and desserts such as Kulfi, Burfi, and Doodh Patti Chai. The book includes a menu-planning section for Diwali and Muslim holidays like Eid and Ramadan, an introduction to the Desi pantry with ingredient substitutes, and spotlights on women including poet Rupi Kaur and food blogger Michelle Tam. Proceeds support select charities. The authors aim to make Pakistani food accessible, share South Asian culture, and inspire women—especially immigrant women—toward creativity, entrepreneurship, and activism.
