1 1/2-litre Grand Prix Racing 1961–1965: Low Power, High Tech

This book examines the 1.5-litre Grand Prix formula from 1961 to 1965, a racing category that British constructors initially resisted but came to dominate almost entirely. The formula has been largely overlooked due to perceptions that the cars lacked power and were therefore unspectacular. However, this overlooks significant technical innovations developed during this period that became standard in motorsport, including monocoque chassis construction. The era marked the premature end of Stirling Moss's racing career, while simultaneously launching the prominence of British drivers Jim Clark, Graham Hill, and John Surtees. The book provides a comprehensive account of the 1.5-litre F1 formula across 46 Grand Prix races, covering 21 marques and 101 drivers who participated in one or more races during this period. While many marques and most drivers had limited impact, the book documents their contributions to this chapter of racing history.
