Aurora Evans, a ballet teacher, encounters Mike Martin, a professional hockey player, when he enrolls his daughter in her dance classes. Years earlier, as a teenager, Aurora had met Mike at the Mall of America and used him as her fake boyfriend to navigate social situations—a secret she never expected to matter since she assumed they'd never meet again. Aurora is managing the aftermath of a failed ballet career, including struggles with panic and eating disorders.
