Perfect for you if...

  • You're drawn to morally complex protagonists and want to understand what breaks a person from the inside out.
  • You appreciate dense psychological character studies that feel uncomfortably true to how guilt actually works.
  • You've read enough contemporary thrillers and want to see where they all learned their craft.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You prefer plot-driven stories where things happen quickly; this moves at the pace of a man unravelling in real time.
  • You want straightforward narratives without philosophical debates woven through the prose.
  • You're looking for a redemption arc with a tidy ending; this offers something far more unsettling.

About this book

This Spanish edition presents Dostoievski's novel in a revised and modernized translation by Rafael Cansinos Assens, with an introduction by David McDuff, a specialist in the author's work. The novel offers a psychological analysis of its protagonist, Raskólnikov, a young student whose belief that humanitarian ends justify wrongdoing leads him to murder a moneylender. Following the crime, guilt becomes an inescapable torment that the student cannot live with. Considered by critics as Dostoievski's first masterwork, the novel examines themes of guilt and morality. This edition of one of literature's most significant works features Cansinos Assens's celebrated translation, updated for this release.
