Deep Cuts: A Novel

Deep Cuts follows Percy Marks and Joe Morrow, two college students who meet at a Berkeley campus bar in fall 2000. Percy, who loves discussing music despite having no musical talent herself, strikes up a conversation with Joe, a songwriter. Their instant chemistry leads to a creative partnership spanning years, as they move between Brooklyn bars and San Francisco dance floors. As Percy and Joe collaborate and circle each other, the novel explores whether their connection will evolve beyond friendship, and whether their partnership might be preventing Percy from finding her own voice. The story examines themes of connection, obsession, belonging, and the human need to be heard by those we love, set against the backdrop of the early 2000s indie music scene.
