Bookstore owner Addie Greyborne prepares to share The Gift of the Magi with her community during the holiday season in Greyborne Harbor, a seaside Massachusetts town. She has donated twelve books as prizes for the lighthouse museum's Twelve Days of Christmas charity fundraiser, including a first edition of The Gift of the Magi signed by O. Henry and imported from England. When Detective Inspector Noah Parker, whom Addie met in England, hand-delivers the signed copy, the season takes an unexpected turn. On the night Addie brings the book to the museum, someone dressed as one of Santa's Little Helpers steals it along with the other charity gifts. The situation becomes more serious when a body is discovered on the rocks outside the lighthouse, apparently murdered. Addie must now investigate the theft and the death, working to recover the stolen goods and identify the killer before the new year arrives.
