In summer 2012, Steve Jenkins agreed to adopt what was advertised as a micro piglet, despite knowing his partner Derek would be reluctant. The pig, named Esther, turned out to be a full-sized commercial pig rather than a miniature breed. Within three years, Esther grew to 600 pounds, requiring far more space than Jenkins and Derek's home could provide. Faced with this unexpected situation, Jenkins and Derek purchased a farm and established the Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary to care for Esther and other animals in need. The book chronicles their journey from reluctant pig owners to farm operators and animal advocates, exploring how their decision to care for one animal led to broader changes in their lives and perspectives.
