About this book

Fire from Heaven dramatizes the formative years of Alexander the Great's life in ancient Greece. The novel depicts his childhood caught between his volatile father Philip and his overbearing mother Olympias, both competing for their precocious son's affection. The narrative follows Alexander's two significant bonds—with his horse Oxhead and with his closest friend and eventual lover Hephaistion—as well as the army he commands while still barely an adult. Set during the battles for southern Greece, the story shows Alexander's coming of age, from the moment he takes his first life at age twelve through his swift elimination of rivals upon gaining power. He emerges as a complex, multifaceted figure. This is the first volume of the Novels of Alexander the Great trilogy, followed by The Persian Boy and Funeral Games. The ebook includes an illustrated biography of Mary Renault with rare photographs.
